Interviews: Billboard Q&A - Trey Anastasio [Billboard]
When you made the decision to reconvene, how long did it take you to recapture that chemistry that’s so productive?
I actually do remember having a dinner at a restaurant, the four of us. We hadn’t all four of us been alone together in a number of years, and sometime during the dinner I went to the bathroom to call my wife and said, “I understand what’s so special about this band just by the way we’re speaking to each other.” There’s such a level of communication and mutual respect that was evident before we ever even picked up the instruments again.

What led to the breakup?
I think we just need to shake things up: people’s personal habits, the group habits, the way that the organization was run — which was awesome, but everything had to be looked at from a difficult angle, and it had to be deconstructed before it could be reconstructed.

Phish Festival: Phish Three Day Halloween Festival [Hidden Track]
Phish.com has just been updated with a graphic advising fans to save the dates of October 30, 31 and November 1 for what will be the first Phish-thrown festival since Coventry in August 2004. As of now, three states in the graphic representing the United States that appears when you visit Phish.com have been blacked out. Those states are Idaho, Oklahoma and West Virgina. Some fans have speculated that as time passes more states will be blacked out leaving only the state where the festival will be held.

I Called It: Name That Tune [Jambands]
At any concert, the music is the ultimate reason for attending the event, yet knowing the name of the songs certainly adds to the evening’s fun. Being able to predict – to see into the immediate future, to call out the name of a song as it develops out of a jam, or simply out of nothingness is an impressive feat, and a source of pleasure for fans of Phish, Widespread Panic, moe., The Grateful Dead and The Disco Biscuits and many other band. Correctly predicting the next song often shows experience, foresight and a finely tuned ear.

Remembrances: My 20 Year Love Affair With Phish [Dan Taylor]
It recently occurred to me that 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of my love affair with four guys from Vermont otherwise known as Phish. I’d like to cover two topics in one piece here: how I was introduced to the band, and my experiences with them, and a primer on what to listen for when listening to Phish.

Summer Tour: Phish Summer Tour Highlights [Examiner]
With the first leg of the summer tour behind us, I decided to take a moment and compile some of my favorite moments.
Phish came out firing on all cylinders, kicking the tour off in famed Fenway Park. Following the road south Phish found themselves headliners at the Bonnaroo Music Festival, where they invited Bruce Springsteen on stage for a rendition of “Mustang Sally,” “Bobby Jean,” and “Glory Days.”

Venues: Georgia Theatre - Rising From The Ashes [JamBase]
There’s Tipitina’s in New Orleans, the Exit/In in Nashville and the Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA. Not necessarily the biggest and shiniest venues in town, but hallowed buildings loved by all who’ve been inside and cultural centers where music fans convene on a nightly basis to enjoy live music in a welcoming environment amongst friends and neighbors. These are the places where everyone from the bartender to the intern working the ticket booth could talk your ears off for hours about the bands coming to town. These are not just the places you go to see your favorite band but the kind of place you go just because it’s the thing to do.

Reviews: Phish @ Alpine Valley [Crawdaddy!]
Soon enough, the nostalgia faded and the music stood on its own. The band is sober, tight, and each one’s virtuosic skills on their instruments, as well as amazing improvisation skills that have enabled them to play different takes of the same songs for over 20 years, served to remind me that Phish delivers on a wide range of sound—be it piano-driven ballads, bass-y funk tunes, meandering guitar jams, experimental opuses (and they can literally cover just about anything). They aren’t just a jam band—they’re way too skilled as musicians for such a generalization, especially now as they are regaining their show legs.

Songs: Summer Tour Debuts [Phish Thoughts]
As we turn the page on a new chapter of Phish history, one of the most exciting facets of this era is the plethora of new songs that were introduced in June. As we begin our reflections on the past tour, I thought that their new songs would be a good place to start. Showcasing diverse songwriting and various musical styles, the band has come out with a slew of new material- with more waiting in the wings. Let’s take a look at each song one by one, in the order of their summer premieres.
