Charities: Phish Fans Donate $1 Million to Charity [Hidden Track]

In a story that we’re sure won’t get as much play as the Jones Beach Jumper, two incredible organizations founded and operated by Phish fans – The Mockingbird Foundation and The Mimi Fishman Foundation – have announced today that they have raised and distributed a combined $1,000,000 for charity. Not only should each board member of those organizations be extremely proud of themselves, but so should every Phish fan that has contributed to these most worthy causes.

Editorials: Remember When Trey Attacked Songs? [OPT]

From the beginning of Phish, all the way until 2000 (even some of 2003, looking back), Trey would attack every song he played–from Maze, Llama, Chalk Dust, Poor Heart or Buried Alive in their composed sections and/or structured jams to more improvisational songs like Down with Disease, You Enjoy Myself, Ghost, Harry Hood or Piper.  Remember when Mike complained of Trey playing too many notes in Bittersweet Motel?  That’s part of what I’m talking about.

Songs: Let’s Take a Ride – BDTNL [Phish Thoughts]

When Blossom’s “Number Line” transformed into one of June’s most impressive jaunts, 2010 seemed like the song’s coming-of-age year. But for the rest of the month and throughout August, Phish unveiled benign version after benign version – until Jones Beach.

Tour Recaps: Great Songs, Less Jamming, But Does It Matter [Jambands]

While the $60 ticket prices this Fall may be a far cry from the $8.50 that a Phish ticket cost at a club in Boston more than 20 years ago, their shows are still more than worth it, and one can’t help but be excited about seeing them again soon. The quality of Phish’s music has always been paramount to the overall experience, of course. Just listen for yourself. And as predictable as part of the setlist may be, so long as they continue to put on a great show, we will be there, and it’ll be up to us to enjoy ourselves. FLUFFHEAD!!!!

Interviews: Trey Anastasio Reflects on Summer Tour [Relix]

You know, we pulled into Merriweather Post Pavilion and we suddenly remembered that there was a song called Walfredo that has a line in it about Merriweather Post Pavilion because we had played with Santana at Merriweather Post Pavilion in like 1991. We’re like “oh, we should learn it.” We get the recording and we learn it backstage and off we go. And that’s a lot of fun, so maybe we do it again.

Jamming: The Jungles In My Mind [Phish Thoughts]

LD Techies: grandMA2 Joins Phish on Tour [Techie Talk]

Polls: Phish Summer Tour Survey – Results [Hidden Track]

Interestingly, Leg 1 and Leg 2 were like distant cousins rather than soul brothers. They could not have been more different and we thought it would be interesting to re-survey the masses to get their opinions on the second leg, the overall tour and some other assorted questions.

Religion: Vessels Not Idols [The Jew in the Phish]

Songs: 2010 Summer Mangoes [Online Phish Tour]

Jumper: Jones Beach Jumper Pleads Not Guilty [11WPIX]

JONES BEACH, N.Y. (WPIX) – The man who threw himself from the 25-foot balcony at Long Island’s Jones Beach Theater during a Phish concert, pleaded not guilty Friday to reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges.

Ballad Slot: Power of the Slow Song [Dog Gone Blog]

Placement and execution are the most essential aspects when delivering a slow number. Slow does not mean a lack of energy, but rather a reduction in tempo. To to draw a comparison, when you’re driving it’s fun to go fast, but if you never slow down you might not get to enjoy the scenery around you. It’s the same in music – a set that constantly charges along is not as interesting as one that explores variations in tempo, and volume as well. The truth is, Phish has so many amazing slow songs it troubles me why they are not played more often. And that’s not to say the ones that were played are not great songs, they just weren’t delivered properly in most cases.

Jumper: Phish Concert Jumper Faces Charges [NY Post]

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — A Maine man who was injured after leaping from the upper deck at Long Island’s Jones Beach Theater has surrendered to face reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges.

Luke Duplessis was awaiting arraignment Friday in Hempstead, N.Y. It was not immediately clear whether the 30-year-old Old Town, Maine, resident was represented by an attorney.

Admissions: I Was A Six-Year-Old Phish Fan [The Observer]

When I was six, a relatively typical interest in music became an all-consuming obsession when I heard Phish for the first time. Against all odds, those four perpetually stoned, Vermont-born-and-raised Deadheads found resonance in my warped six-year-old mind, and their complex, endless jams inexplicably appealed to my young ears. I soon snatched up any Phish records I could get my hands on, setting a precedent for what would soon become a lifelong habit.

  • @basher22 No way it's real. I can't imagine a manager of any band would say those things. #

Lists: Phish Summer Tour – Leg 2: From A to Z [Hidden Track]

W is for Walls of the Cave – Though it may have taken those in attendance a few moments after Page hit the isolated notes on his baby grand before recognizing this Round Room song, the first performance by 3.0 was warmly welcomed once the band got into it and rocked this out with little signs of rust.

Summer Tour: Leg II’s Best Jams and Highlights [OPT]

8/7 Suzy Greenberg, Jam – Whenever Trey starts the Suzy jam back up after playing the song, you know you’re in for a treat.  Last time happening with the epic version from Festival 8 and only happening twice before that (1996, 2000), this version was a bit shorter but wasn’t short on fun–while F8′s stopped completely before launching into the jam, this one had Trey strumming out of the end.  When Fish realized what was up he bust back into the jam.  It’s always refreshing when Trey wants to go for it nowadays.

Two of the online communities that Shawn frequents have come together to raise funds to assist Shawn with expenses as well as to supply him with internet access as his laptop was destroyed in the crash and, due to his injuries, he is mostly stuck in bed. As a joint effort between members at phishposters.com and week4paug.net, a series of Phish-related posters (more than one Pollock!) have been donated to be auctioned for Shawn’s benefit. More posters should be going up later this week, so keep checking back. All funds from these sales will be going to Shawn.

Trey: Ernest and the Whale [Dog Gone Blog]

Without a doubt 2010 has been the defining year for Trey’s new guitar approach, appropriately dubbed “the whale call”. During the tour opener in Chicago, Trey brought his pitch-shifting device to the forefront in an effort to shape his notes through a slurred – highly digitial – caterwauling sound.
