Interviews: Watkins Glen International President Talks Super Ball IX [Bands That Jam]

JG – First of all, congrats on the announcement Mike. Can you briefly explain the process and how this whole thing came to fruition?

MP – The whole thing wouldn’t have been possible without (Watkins Glen International Senior Marketing Director) Brett Powell. He rocked the world. It was his idea. When I got here in ‘09 Brett was trying to put together some shows and we ran across some obstacles.  I had come across some of the same obstacles at Michigan (Speedway) so when Brett and I met here at The Glen, it was a great marriage because it was super important that we get the relationship down first and then find the band. We got real lucky with Coran Capshaw and his group. Coran picked up the Phish side of it and it couldn’t really be a happier day here in 2011.

Rumors: Watkins Glen Prez Says No Phish Fest, Yet [Hidden Track]

When asked if he was hesitant to publish the article, Stergion responded “we publish stories based on good information from good sources. We take a look at the circumstances of the information and decide whether or not it’s credible. In this case we believe this will happen so we published it.” As for the rumors the Dave Matthews Band would be tied to the festival, Stergion claimed “we never heard DMB mentioned by anyone in person or any sources from within Watkins Glen. We’re confident that Watkins Glen will be a Phish-only festival.” It turns out this event has been long in the making according to Pete, “WGI actually sent people out to Phish shows in 2010 to get an idea of what kind of crowd they can expect & to take  notes for how security was handled at Phish shows.”

Rumors: Phish to Host Festival 9 in Watkins Glen [Bands That Jam]

Sources close to the situation in Watkins Glen have reported to us that Phish has signed a contract for Phish Festival 9 July 4th weekend at Watkins Glen International.

Tickets will be $200 for the entire weekend. There will be 8 sets total happening on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

Festival 9 Rumors: Update – Phish Watkins Glen [Bands That Jam]

Sources close to us at the track in Watkins Glen have reported that Phish is planning a 4 day festival. Tickets will be from $190 to $240 and include camping. Our source tells us that the signing of the contract is imminent.
