Essex: Wake of the Flood Returns to Vermont [Coventry]

Phish is a tremendous source of inspiration. The friends that I met through the band give me hope for humanity. Trey is a personal hero because I also struggle with some of the same (pharmaceutical) demons that he dealt with over the last decade or so. It’s not easy being Trey, and it’s even a thousand times tougher to walk the line of sobriety while feeding the creative beast within you and trying to entertain and show everyone a good time without being redundant. Despite the deviant obstacles, Trey and the rest of the band continue to share their collaborative musical talents with whomever is bold and crazy enough to follow them along for the ride. Phish was born in Vermont in the mid-80s when a bunch of geeky college students decided to form a band. It took 240 attempts, but I’m fortunate that I got to finally see a good show near their birthplace.

Coventry’s demons have finally been exorcised.

Denver: Phish Dick’s Review – Night One [Coventry]

“Wow, all S songs,” I said to the girl next to me. She was too spun to notice. At that point, we tried to figure out the second set. Would the S theme continue? Was it prelude for Santana, who was rumored to sit in with the boys because he was playing Red Rocks the next two nights. Many moons ago, Phish played the infamous M set packed with M songs. Maybe we were getting inside their deviant secret — they are S&M freaks?

Broomfield: Colorado Night Three Review [Coventry]

It’s not easy being Phish because no matter what they do, it’s going to alienate somebody. If they stick to their greatest hits, someone is gonna bitch that they want to hear something else. If they play new material, someone is gonna whine about missing YEM. And if they ever bust out an old tune that hasn’t been performed in the 3.0 era, someone is gonna complain that it was a shitty version.

Alpine: Night One Recap – When The Circus Comes [Coventry]

Alpine: Phish @ Alpine Valley, Night Two – Recap [Coventry]

I had such a good time on Saturday night that after the show, I told my girlfriend that there was a 5% chance I would go to Jones Beach. When I woke up on Sunday that had climbed to 10%. Once I discovered that my buddy Matt Law had extras to both nights at Jones Beach, the percentage rocketed to 75%. As I walked out of the Sunday show, I was 90% sure I was going to Jones Beach.

I spotted a guy with a FUNKY BITCH sign. The Joker had mentioned that Phish had turned into a request band, so it’s in everyone’s best interest to bring witty signs to shows in hopes of hearing your favorite (obscure) song.

If the answer is yes to any of those questions, then you should become a contestant in Coventry’s Phish-araoke Contest.

Miami: 12/29 Show Recap [Coventry]

Security check-in was significantly more thorough. I ran into Eric in the hall. He’s an “insider” and relayed the sad news that the Miami shows were the last show til late-July and August. “Enjoy the last bits of Phish for a while,” he said.

MSG: MSG #3 – The Grand Finale [Coventry]

First Tube started out flat then took off in a thousand directions at once — sort of like being shot out of a canon, er, make that a thousand canons. A few minutes into the song, the crowd went bat shit crazy. Screaming. Yelling. Like everyones’ drugs kicked in at the same time! A fat kid puked on himself.

Albany: Show Recap – Albany Night On [Coventry]

As soon as I heard the opening notes, I tweet’d… Fluffhead of all Fluffheads to save the show. Boy, was I right. The crowd exploded into a collective orgasm. I had to check my pants to make sure I didn’t not leave any semen streaks. I had not seen that much frenzied and kinetic energy at a show since the first night in Hampton. The crowd were patiently wading through the fluff in the first set until Phish stopped driving in cruise control like your grandmother on the freeway and let it rip like a NASCAR driver. They floored the accelerator for the rest of the show and did not let up.

That’s why I travel long distances to see the Phish.

Happy Thanksgiving: Thank You, Phish [Coventry]

It’s Thanksgiving so it’s time for us at Coventry to give a hearty, “Thank You” to Phish and their organization. Since the Phish reunion at Hampton in March, we’ve returned on a magical journey that only Phish can lead us on. For that alone, I’m extremely thankful for the re-emergence of Phish into my life. Over the last year, I reconnected with old friends and made new ones along the way. To quote a lyric we all know… “I feel the feeling I forgot.”

For that, I’d like to Thank Phish on behalf of the entire Coventry crew.

Cincinnati: Mr Fabulous’ Friday Show Review [Coventry]

The two-night throwdown at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati this weekend was the best live Phish that I have personally witnessed.

Jaded veterans and career haters on PT will no doubt disagree with me. In my defense, I’ll present two pieces of supporting evidence: First, the inestimable Mr. Miner at Phish Thoughts, who solemnly declared that Friday night’s Set II marked the official beginning of Fall Tour; and the Phish themselves, who let Trey sum up the band’s feelings about the weekend when he wrapped up Saturday night by declaring, “We wish we could play here for a week.”

SPAC: Tips For Navigating SPAC [Coventry]

My guess is the largest shakedown street area will be the main route 50 parking lot. If you want to park in this lot, my advice is to get there early. It will fill. There is also parking on the opposite side of route 50 in various impromptu lots and this can be a bit of a hike also. There is a pedestrian bridge across rte 50. USE IT.
