Editorial: Lazy Writers Beware – Phish Fans Attack [On The Phish Beat]

When scribes from the outside world – bloggers, journalists, etc. – write terribly inaccurate pieces about our beloved band, we react swiftly and in droves, like a swarm of angry bees or a pack of hungry lions.

Haters: 5 Things to Like About OSL Schedule [SF Weekly]

1. There are plenty of ways to avoid Phish.
Doubtless, some of you will be seeking to actually catch Phish (ha!) — and to you, well, godspeed. But those of us who require a minimum 200-yard distance from any jam bands are well served by Friday’s schedule, which offers such enticements as Big Boi, Erykah Badu, Best Coast, the Shins, and Big Audio Dynamite, all while Phish noodles on the main stage for more than three hours.

Humor: Madlibs For Haters [JiggsLot]

Recently I attended the Phish show at ___________ (venue name). I have been seeing the band for many___________, (units of time) and I think that I have a very good _________ (body part) for music. I can pretty much tell when the band makes a __________ (size) mistake. In fact, I can often tell what the band members are thinking; I am such a/an __________ (adjective) judge of live shows. I am actually pretty amazed at myself for being able to render an opinion so __________ (adverb).

Haters: Rock Docs Try to “Cure” Phish Fan [Sound Opinions]

4a A few times a year Jim and Greg take off their critics’ hats and put on their doctors’ coats. They talk to listeners in need of a dose of new music or musical therapy. Today, they respond to an urgent plea from Katie in Atlanta. She filled out our patient form on behalf of her fiancé Daniel. According to Katie, Daniel is addicted to Phish. She admires his passion for the jam band, but wishes he’d expand his listening palette more. Plus, following a forever-touring band can be time-consuming and expensive—especially when planning a wedding.

Phish 3D: The Great Concert Films – Gold Standard [OrlandoSentinel]

And the band didn’t help. The odd smile, almost no interaction with their audience, just serious musicians playing their music. As spontaneous as Hannah Montana.

It was dull as a movie, and the regular working journalists who cover live music I know confirmed this to be an accurate representation of the Phish concert experience. Not a lot of “show” in their show business, not the most accessible tunes. A big sound, but not really a big show.

Sad to say, I will not be joining you for the big upcoming tour, but really—have fun with that!

Editorial: Just Have Fun, Man [BeLOW Me]

The way things ended in 2004 were so awful that you have to feel good for these guys, and at the same time for the fans who are so supportive. When the band expressed how much fun they were having in the “northeast” the fans just loved it. We love having them around, and love partying with them.

There will certainly be more great moments during their shows from now until the end of summer tour.

With all of that said, there have been no great shows at all, and here’s why.

Editorial: The Case Against Phish [Idolator]

In 2005, at the height of Coldplay’s popularity, The New York Times published a scathing essay by Jon Pareles. “The Case Against Coldplay” argued that the self-pity of the Chris Martin-fronted band was calculated, and that its grandiose sound was built to prey on an unsuspecting populace. On the eve of Phish’s first summer tour in years, kicking off with a show at Fenway Park in Boston, Dylan Stableford offers a similar argument.
