Flood Benefit: Phish to Raise Money For Flood Victims [WCAX]

“What we’re hoping to do is give 100 percent of ticket money to the benefit, so it will benefit the people. These concerts are very expensive to put on, so we’ve been able to get vendors and people that are involved with it to do this either for a reduced price or for nothing. We’re looking to have other people help underwrite it. Our manager, Coran Capshaw, manages a number of other bands; Dave Matthews said that he was going to contribute to it. So if we can get people to cover the expenses of putting on the concert, then we will be able to give 100 percent of it to the relief fund,” McConnell explained.

Mike & Page: Mike Gordon & Page McConnell Ready New Albums [Jambands]

Mike Gordon and Page McConnell are currently working on new studio albums. The two musicians not only share a band in Phish, but also a collaborator in Jared Slomoff. He has been spending time with both artists helping to craft their efforts. Gordon’s disc is expected to hit in the early fall, while the street date for McConnell’s recording is still unknown.

Interviews: Page McConnell & the Joy of Phish [Keyboard]

The four members of Phish — Trey Anastasio on guitar, Mike Gordon on bass, Jon Fishman on drums, and Page McConnell on keyboards — add unique ingredients to the musical stew. Anastasio is the bandleader, though all members can and do sing and front songs in concert. Their connection onstage borders on ESP, with a Möbius-strip quality that weaves and bobs amongst intricate melodies and time changes. Though Gordon and Fishman both do admirable jobs of holding down the foundation of the music, it’s McConnell who most often compliments Anastasio’s melodic work.

Interviews: A Chat With Page McConnell [Burlington Free Press]

Burlington Free Press: How were those first few moments in the studio as you worked on the new album?
Page McConnell: We dove right into it really. We had rehearsed but not immediately prior to going into the studio. The rehearsals we had done for the new material had come mostly before the Hampton shows so we already played live and went in on the heels of that. We started right off with “Backwards Down the Number Line,” which ended up being the first song on the album and that version on the album is the first take we did of it. We just sat down and played right away, one take, very little overdub. If you like that song, then you can imagine what it was like for us.
